Alex & Melvyn - The Sussex Barn, Hellingly

August 13, 2016

We spent a brilliant day photographing Alex & Melvyn's amazing wedding in mid August this year. Both the ceremony and the reception were held at the stunning Sussex Barn venue in Hellingly.

I started the day joining Alex and her Bridesmaids and family getting ready at her parents home. Alex wore a stunning ivory gown with fitted sheer bodice covered in diamante and out to a full net floor length skirt. Alex had beautiful blush pink Monsoon shoes with diamante detailing and her pretty bridesmaids wore a gorgeous shade of coral with bejewelled flip flops. The flower girls looked very cute in ivory dresses. Alex held a lovely coral and pink large bridal bouquet and her bridesmaids held simple ivory hydrangea stems. Alex's 'bridesman' mustn't be forgotten and looked very sharp in a dark blue suit with coral tie! Loads of great photo opportunities were made the most of during the morning of bridal prep including some pretty make up shots while the therapist from Soul to Sole Health and Beauty Clinc worked her magic!

Melvyn arrived in style to The Sussex Barn in a bright orange truck and wore a dark blue suit and ivory tie while his Groomsmen wore bright coral ties to match the bridesmaids - oh, and all wore matching socks with their initials embroidered on!

The Sussex Barn looked amazing decorated with lots of ivory flowers in recycled jars and large jugs and urns. The tables were decorated with gorgeous photos of Alex & Melvyn's little girl and lots more beautiful flowers. Everywhere you looked there were very tasteful features to reflect the rustic theme of the day, lots of shabby chic decor and hand made bunting. The guests sat on hay bales for the ceremony and the bride & groom had a sofa made out of hay bales to sit on! Alex & Melvyn's cake was just lovely with loads of fresh seasonal fruit on tiers of vanilla sponge.

The ceremony was great with lots of laughs and a few (happy) tears! Soon Alex & Melvyn walked back up the aisle as newly weds and got covered in confetti and hugs from their friends and family! After they had time to grab a celebratory drink and had a mingle, we whisked them off for some private shots around the barn in the stunning country side.

The speeches were some of the most original and funny that we had heard in ages complete with a video of the bride & groom singing to one of the Frozen tracks and a Bruno Mars impersonator!

Later Alex & Melvyn enjoyed their first dance together as Mr & Mrs swaying to Tom Fitzpatrick who did a couple of sets in the evening.

It was an amazing wedding from start to finish, all the little touches thought through in great detail and it showed in a fantastic day! No shortage of shutter finger action from us!

We wish Alex & Melvyn many, many happy years of marriage and thank them for letting us be a little part of their big day.

All the best

Jason
